Continuous Professional Development

We recognise the significance of continuous professional development (CPD) in maintaining and enhancing standards within the sector. CPD bolsters the knowledge and skills of councillors and council staff and is also integral to sector qualifications and the Local Council Award Scheme.

All training and development contribute to CPD. A national points scheme has been established to illustrate how various activities enhance an individual's professional growth. This points scheme is also employed by the Local Council Award Scheme to demonstrate a commitment to CPD.

CPD activities encompass studying for qualifications, attending conferences and short courses, participating in webinars, and reading relevant publications. Clerks also gain valuable experience through new activities and by actively contributing to the sector's development as national, regional, or local committee members.
