NALC highlights role of hyperlocal councils at Scribefest 2024
We attended Scribefest 2024, an online conference dedicated to promoting the work of parish and town councils.
We were the conference's opening speaker, and our speech focused on the Star Council Awards. We emphasised the critical role of hyperlocal councils in strengthening communities and addressing modern challenges such as health and wellbeing, housing, the climate emergency, and the cost of living crisis.
We praised parish and town councils for balancing these contemporary issues while maintaining essential services like public spaces and community events. We also highlighted examples such as Council of the Year winner Braunstone Town Council’s community welfare initiatives and Odiham Parish Council’s transformation, which restored public trust and improved local services.
We used the platform to encourage over 1,000 attendees to celebrate their achievements, strive for excellence, and actively engage with their members of parliament.
Finally, we concluded by announcing the launch of our new website on 7 October 2024. The website will provide enhanced features to support councils and offer further information on previous Star Council Awards winners and other case studies.
