NALC empowers communities to take a stand on White Ribbon Day 2024
We show our unwavering support for White Ribbon Day 2024, an international campaign dedicated to ending male violence against women and girls and fostering a culture of equality and respect.
This year's White Ribbon Day theme, It Starts with Men, resonates deeply with our mission to strengthen local governance and empower communities. It Starts with Men is an essential message about men and boys being accountable to women and girls and to each other. This is how we can affect positive behaviour change to transform harmful cultures that lead to violence against women and girls.
We have outlined a series of initiatives to mark our support for White Ribbon Day 2024 to raise awareness and promote tangible action. We've launched a brand-new digital White Ribbon Toolkit. The White Ribbon Toolkit is a powerful resource designed to inspire action, foster change, and combat gender-based violence. It includes details on what violence against women and girls is, the impact it has on communities, breaking down some of the horrific statistics, information on how parish and town councils can take action, a series of case studies that highlight the powerful stories of councils taking a bold stand, a pool of resources from training and templates to social media posts and visual assets, as well as where to get support. Additionally, we'll participate in the 16 Days of Activism on our social media channels, publishing a blog on the subject and organising internal discussions.
White Ribbon Day 2024 is observed annually on 25 November and calls on individuals, organisations, and communities to take a stand against gender-based violence.
I'm proud a member of our White Ribbon Steering Group and grateful for the group support in helping us produce the toolkit to help parish and town councils promoting gender equality and taking a stand against violence. Parish and town councils have a unique role in supporting community-led initiatives, and we hope this toolkit encourages councils across the country to get involved in this important cause.
