NALC attends the Lancashire Association of Local Councils conference

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) joined over 50 local (parish and town) council representatives from Lancashire and Merseyside at a conference in Preston to discuss key issues facing local government. 

The event, organised by the Lancashire Association of Local Councils, highlighted the importance of engaging with the newly elected Parliament and promoting the crucial work of local councils.

During the conference, attendees were briefed on NALC’s plans for outreach to the new MPs. Speakers encouraged local councils to establish strong relationships with their parliamentary representatives, emphasising the positive impact councils have on their communities.

Key topics of the conference included climate change and local councils' biodiversity duty, sparking insightful discussions on how councils can play a proactive role in environmental sustainability. Steve Parkinson, one of NALC’s financial advisers, provided an in-depth briefing on several financial matters, including introducing the new Model Financial Regulations, which he recently developed.

Additionally, Mark Davies from CCLA gave an impactful presentation on the organisation's efforts to combat modern slavery and support care leavers, highlighting the vital social role that councils can take in addressing these issues.

The event was praised for its excellent organisation, with NALC representatives encouraging further participation in similar events held by county associations. The conference served as a reminder of the critical role local councils play in addressing both financial and social issues within their communities.
