Houghton Regis Town Council undergoes successful Corporate Peer Challenge

Houghton Regis Town Council received its Corporate Peer Challenge feedback report on 24 May 2024.

The council located in Bedfordshire participated in a rigorous Corporate Peer Challenge between 26 and 28 March 2024. It received its feedback report, which was filled with commendations for the council's efforts. The report also provided actionable recommendations to further its corporate goals, including establishing formal annual objectives for committees and staff. These positive feedback and suggestions highlight the council's achievements and potential for future success.

The challenge, facilitated by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) and the Local Government Association (LGA), aimed to assess and enhance the council's operational and strategic frameworks. The Corporate Peer Challenge is known for its robust and strategic approach, offering credible challenges and support to local councils. By engaging both political and managerial leadership, the initiative fosters a collaborative environment where member and officer peers work together to drive improvement.

NALC's senior solicitor and legal services manager, Jane Moore, played a pivotal role in this initiative. She joined a panel of distinguished peers, including Cllr Ian Davis, chair of Newton and Biggin Parish Council and vice-chair of the Warwickshire Association of Local Councils, and Shar Roselman, town clerk for Newport Pagnell Town Council. The panel also featured representatives from the LGA, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation.

Council officials expressed their gratitude for the insightful feedback and their unwavering commitment to implementing the recommended changes. This initiative marks a significant step towards bolstering the council's capacity to serve the Houghton Regis community effectively, demonstrating the council's dedication to continuous improvement.
