The responsible financial officer role will suit anyone who strives for new challenges and who can help us develop and execute our plans to deliver projects of great benefit to our residents. The role is permanent, full time, and there is the option of hybrid working.

Hailsham Town Council is proud to serve the people of Hailsham, delivering and enabling a range of services to residents and visitors – from parks, allotments and cemeteries to events, community centres, post office and youth service.

The responsible financial officer will join our fantastic town council team, as we work to create an exciting future and embrace opportunities to enhance our great town. Hailsham is going places – and so can you!

Duties will include:

  • Providing day to day financial management of the town council under the direction of the town clerk.
  • Managing the town council’s financial affairs within the legal framework for local authorities and to comply with current legislation, statements of recommended practice and accounting codes of practice to ensure that the town council complies with the financial regulations approved by the council.

Responsible financial officer requirements:

  • A professional manner and the ability to work to a high standard.
  • Able to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Experience at a senior level in an organisation with responsibility for key financial functions.
  • Budget setting and financial management skills.
  • Excellent oral, written and email communication skills, including an ability to relate to, and communicate with councillors, staff, public and external agencies.
